Paul Williams of the Rover Sports Register comments: ‘There are quite a few really nice 600s around and demand isn’t that strong, so now is a good time to buy because values are low. Just £250 buys something that’s usable although you need to double this budget to buy something nice. Even something with show potential needn’t cost more than £1000, although some vendors ask for more in the hope that they’ll get it. Diesels are rare and unloved as they’re rattly and not very nice to use, but they do return over 40mpg; the petrol engines knock this down to more like 30mpg. The low values mean nobody is restoring project cars but some 600s are being scrapped because of very small faults that can be easily and cheaply fixed on a DIY basis.’
