This is possibly the most famous car film ever. But if you haven’t seen it, it centres on Lt Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen), a maverick cop who has to protect a witness against a crime syndicate. The car talent includes the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback piloted by Bullitt, but the film also has some obscure European motors you might have missed. Out of focus, but in plain sight, you’ll find a Peugeot 403 and an Opel Kadett. Weirdly, a lonesome Hillman Imp can be found on one of San Francisco’s famously steep streets. Speaking of which, ‘that’ hill chase scene became one of the best known car chases in cinematic history and earned Frank Keller an Oscar for his editing of it.
