1987 Jaguar XJ-S 5.3HE
From a distance here was an XJ-S that really looked the part, but up closer it showed scope for improvement. The paint (but fortunately not the bodywork) really wasn’t all that. Its light gold metallic hue offered up a few nicks and scratches and the brightwork was marked, while vexingly there were mudflaps on the nearside but not on the offside. The inside was very much the same – not scruffy, but in desperate need of a good clean, the driver’s door panel and both front seats being notably dirty. The engine bay was tidy and it sounded good, and it made what it was worth.
