‘I’ve owned my 928 S4 for ten years now and it’s been ultra-reliable. I’ve taken it to Portugal and back for golfing holidays for the past five years and it’s not missed a beat. I love the easy thrust and V8 roar. The fuel economy isn’t great, but then this is a much nicer place to be for the Portugal trip than sitting on a budget plane! The only issues I’ve had are minor electrical issues, but nothing as bad as the internet would have you believe. If you keep an eye out for the 14-pin connector then you should be okay. My biggest expense was replacing the leather on the dashboard – someone had drilled a hole in the dash and it had torn over the years. In the end I had the whole interior refurbished, which cost about £2000. It’s worth joining a Porsche club, as there is plenty of advice out there. One other suggestion is that unless you’re really after a GTS, don’t be too bothered by its extra status – they don’t ride as well and that engine is bespoke to that model. The S4 is plenty fast enough as it is, anyway!’
