35-MILE MG MIDGET FOR SALE
Unused one-owner 1500 tipped to break model’s price record at Goodwood
An MG Midget that’s covered just 35 miles from new is being auctioned later this month.
Bonhams is selling the 1979 Midget 1500 at its Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on 30 June with a £10-15k estimate, although market observers believe that it could exceed this due to its minimal mileage and as-new condition.
CCW markets editor, Richard Barnett, believes it’s a golden opportunity for marque devotees.
‘ While late, ultra-low mileage MGBs are hardly a rare auction offering, similarly low-mileage Midgets are far rarer.
‘This 50th anniversary limited edition deserves a place in any MG collection’.
An MG with just 35 miles on the clock will star at Bonhams’ Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on 30 June.
The 1979 Midget 1500 – which has an estimate of £10,000-15,000 – has never been registered. Its current owners – who ran an MG dealership at the time – bought it from the factory before putting it in to their private collection. It stayed there for 39 years, and has never been on the road.
It comes complete with spare wheel, tool kit, jack, tonneau cover, and radio fitting kit, exactly as the factory would have delivered it to the dealership.
Bonhams’ motoring department director, Sholto Gilbertson, says: ‘It’s seriously rare for an unregistered car to come to market, especially one which is presented effectively as new. It represents a unique opportunity for MG enthusiasts across the world – Bonhams has not offered such a low mileage MG for more than 20 years.’
