Next stop: the seaside!

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Living With Classics - DAVID BROWN

It’s a busy time for the T2 as its annual service and MoT check coincides with the beginning of the show/camping season, so it should be in fine fettle for the adventures ahead.

The camper has only covered 1000 miles over the past 12 months because there were times last year when I was unable to drive due to ill health. The addition of an orange Beetle has given the T2 some competition when it comes to attending events, too, so it was time to get it back out on the road.

As such, the T2 delivered me, my son Miles and colleague Richard ‘ Top’ Gunn to this year’s Stanford Hall VW Show (see CCW, 10 May), and it was certainly in great company – I could have spent hours just looking around the car park!

Its next outing was to VW Aircooled Works at Whaplode, where it was swapover time with the Beetle ( CCW, 7 June), which had just had its MoT, service and tweaks. Because of its light mileage during the previous 12 months, the T2 just required an intermediate engine service and not a lot else. Sorted.

So, it wasn’t long before ‘Geoff’ was back on my drive and a sunny Sunday morning test drive to Stamford was in order to confirm that it was running – and stopping – properly. I think that a trip to the Norfolk coast will be in order very soon.

The T2 went to Northants on Drive-it Day, ending up at AGA Oundle’s Breakfast Meet.

Service and tweaks completed – the camper is ready for the open road once more.
