Barry Sidery-Smith, a his­toric racer known for his ex­ploits in AustinHealeys, Tri­umphs and MGBs, has died at the age of 81. He orig­i­nally be­came in­volved in mo­tor sport when he en­tered a race in a bor­rowed Parker JAP special, go­ing on to buy an AustinHealey 100/4. He has raced MGBs since the 1970s, in­clud­ing at the Good­wood Re­vival and the Le Mans Clas­sic. De­spite be­ing nick­named ‘Sideways’ Smith he was known for his neat driv­ing style, par­tic­u­larly in the wet.
