Mann-made celica for sale

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week - dee-atkinson-harri

A Toyota Celica GT-4 Group N rally car originally campaigned by David Mann is being offered at an East Yorkshire country house auction next month.

Estimated at £25,000-30,000, the rally car makes an unusual addition to Dee Atkinson & Harrison’s second Classic Car & Motorcycle sale at Sledmere House, Driffield, on 29 July.

The car was first registered on 11 January 1989 to rally ace, David Mann, who competed in the N4 class with Ian Wray as co-driver/navigator. It was bought as a low-spec standard car and converted to Group N spec.

The car competed in a total of 16 rallies throughout 1989 and 1990, with the best result being third place in the Kerridge Severn Valley Rally. After five more years of rally competition, the car was acquired by Michael ‘Stivie’ Stephenson of Malton Motor Club, who was responsible for many details and improvements, including a 300bhp engine that was built by DTW Engines of Harlow, Essex.

Andrew Spicer of Dee Atkinson & Harrison says: ‘Although running, it will need recommissioning before it can hit the rally circuit in anger and items like the seats and harness upgrading to meet current regulations.’

The car is being sold with its V5c, build history and a number of spare parts.
