NEW NÜRBURGRING EVENT’s A CLAssIC
hundreds of drivers and more than 600 cars tackled the new nürburgring classic Richard Mille event on 17-18 June.
a wide-ranging selection of metal took on the infamous ‘green hell’, including the german touring car classics, a class that brought together former drivers from the german DtM (the german equivalent of the british touring car championship), the historical touring car trophy and the aDac eifel race. the Mercedesbenz Museum also took part in the event, supplying the keys to its ssk, Racing ss and type-s to Jochen Mass, klaus ludwig and Roland asch – three german drivers famous in the eifel hills.
time slots were also scheduled to allow amateur drivers to drive on the north loop. at 20.832 kilometres long, the track involves 176 turns, allowing the spectators who turned out for this first edition of the event every opportunity to enjoy the smells and sounds.
around 100 cars that raced between 1927 and 1939 took part in a demonstration race on the grand Prix circuit, with the famous bentley 4 1⁄2 litres facing-off once more against their arch-rivals, including the bugatti type 35b and Mercedes-benz Rennsport.
