OUR FESTIVAL FAVOURITES
JAMES SADLIER 1979 VW BEETLE
Being a big fan of 1980s Tamiya radio-controlled cars I couldn’t resist this adult life-size replica of the ‘Sand Scorcher’ (inset). Owner, Olivier Ellerbrock, one of the world’s largest radio-controlled car collectors, finished it just days before the start of the Festival. The Beetle required many donor parts, such as new upgraded disc brakes, plus a close-ratio gearbox to accommodate the oversize rear wheels. Olivier has more mechanical tweaking to do on the car but aesthetically it is as close to the iconic radio-controlled classic as it can be.
