1911 Mercedes-Benz 28/50hp tourer
In one family’s ownership since 1957, here was what could truly be described as an older restoration, a bus body having been fitted before acquistion. The ‘Roi des Belges’ tourer body it was fitted with was built in the early 1960s and looked the part, mixing gravitas with sensible proportions. The paint was certainly going home but the panelwork was pretty good, while the nicely mellowed interior was a good reason why preservation is better than replacement. Little used in recent years, but said to be in running condition, here was a car enough to make any real enthusiast’s eyes go prickly – it was that captivatingly honest.
