1936 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 special

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

Many buyers of pre-war cars prefer patina over concours, and this ex-Joy Rainey Alfa special was just right, being good throughout and having a fantastic history, having been built by the father of highly-regarded motor sport competitor, Joy Rainey, from a 6C 2300 chassis. Much ingenuity was used in the car’s creation, including the use of two heater blowers from a DeHavilland Vampire jet fighter as superchargers, while a bespoke body replaced the original plan for a scruffy BMW 328 affair. Outings at Prescott, Shelsley Walsh and the Goodwood Festival of Speed added to its appeal, and many onlookers felt that it was very much a case of not if it would sell, but how much it would sell for.
