In late 1959 Dagenham announced the impending launch of ‘the world’s most exciting light car’, one powered by a new oversquare 997cc OHV engine and sporting a reverse slope rear window. ‘ TAKE A LOOK!’ ordered the advertisements, virtually demanding that the reader rush to their nearest dealer in order to see the first British Ford to be equipped with electric windscreen wipers and a four-speed manual gearbox. The prices were keen – the De Luxe cost £610 – and the highly distinctive coachwork gave the Anglia 105E, to use a popular phrase of the day, the appearance of a car of ‘ The Motorway Age’.
