FEELGOOD FESTIVALS

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - 6-page Nostalgia Special -

The dawn of a new decade was to usher in a fresh era of popular music, with glam rock challenging the traditional type. This was perhaps exemplified by two of 1970’s big festivals, Isle of Wight and the first Glastonbury event. Jimi Hendrix starred at the former but died just over two weeks later, the day before Glastonbury. The Kinks were meant to headline that gathering, but were replaced by Tyrannosaurus Rex, soon to become T Rex, with glittery singer, Marc Bolan. Big singles included The Beatles’ Let It Be, Mungo Jerry’s In The Summertime and Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge over Troubled Water.
