Not the most shocking film choice and/or subject you’ll ever see in Classics on TV but Goldfinger is a classic film for a good reason. Not only that, but a survey recently conducted by an insurance company revealed that James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 is the car from the world of film and television that people would most like to own.
Goldfinger is the first film to feature the DB5, and sees Commander Bond uncover a plot to contaminate Fort Knox’s gold reserve. Initially, Aston Martin was reluctant to part with cars for the production, but after the film’s success, and noticeably improved sales, future Bond producers would no longer have this problem.
The film DB5s have loads of bits of trivia associated with them, but the most interesting surrounds the mysterious theft of one of them from a Florida airport in 1997. The car has yet to be found. Bond really ought to get that seen to. Murray scullion
