Vectis Vauxhalls raise a princely figure

REVIEW: The Isle of Wight Yesteryear Collection, Vectis, Thornaby, North Yorkshire, 11 July

Matchbox launched the ‘Models of Yesteryear’ range at the Harrogate Toy Trade Fair in 1956 featuring good quality models of earlier vehicles. The Vectis sale on 11 July featured numerous scarce variations and preproduction models, some of which were bought from the very first Vectis auctions held on the Isle of Wight that made their way into a collection named after the island.

Among the rarities on offer were two Y2 Prince Henry Vauxhall models. Both were in near-mint condition. The

colour scheme was dark blue body and chassis, silver bonnet, and red seats. They sold for £220 each.
