5 WAYS TO MAKE IT BETTER

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

1 UPGRADE THE SEAL

The scroll-type rear crank seal guarantees incontinence, but for less than £100 you can invest in a tighter lip seal conversion.

2 SWAP THE ENGINE

Engine swaps aren’t difficult; choose between 1098cc or 1275cc units in standard or gently breathedon forms.

3 BEEF UP THE CARB

If you want to create a Q-car, a 1275cc engine fed by twin carburettors will prove surprisingly perky, without guzzling fuel.

4 SWAP THE ‘BOX

Original cars have a smooth gearbox casing. The later ribbed version from the A40 MkII is stronger and features improved syncromesh.

5 FIT BIGGER BRAKES

It’s possible to fit Midget discs up front, especially the A40 MkII, which featured the same uprated kingpins as the Midget.
