WHY I LOVE MY A40

-

Keith Bennett bought his 1958 A40 MkI in 1966 and still uses it as his everyday car. He says: ‘I learned to drive in an A40 so when I passed my test I decided to buy one. It had 100,000 miles on the clock; 60,000 miles later I fitted a Goldseal engine and gearbox. The engine was replaced last year at 350,000 miles; I’ve stuck with a 948cc unit because the car still runs on crossply tyres with drum brakes. I used radial tyres for a bit but they have too much grip for the chassis. The car was restored in the early 1990s and had a fresh coat of paint, which it still wears. I still enjoy driving it; having paid just £225 for it all those years ago I think I’ve had my money’s worth!’
