Thanks for jogging my memory about that Northants garage

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week - ❚ Michael Gardner, Northampton

Thank you for the Spring 1964 The Way We

Were in CCW, 19 July. I have many memories of Mr Brooks’ garage in Kingsthorpe, Northampton as I lived nearby from 1959 to 1961. My late father purchased his first car in 1961, a 1936 Morris Eight Tourer, for £17 10s (£17.50) and took it to the garage for its first MoT – or the ‘ten-year test’ as it was known then. Dad would often call in there on his way home, after delivering milk on his local round. Mr Brooks was a well respected man and his garage forecourt was always busy with cars and fuel being sold. When I look at that picture, the clear smell of petrol, the tyres, and old engine oil comes flooding back. Such wonderful nostalgia.

I am going to make a 1:43 scale model of this garage and try to capture some of that great atmosphere.
