Vauxhall proclaimed that it was the country’s ‘No. 1 Export Car’ a year after the Victor’s launch in 1957, providing hundreds of thousands of motorists with Eisenhower-era styling on a British scale – and with a modestly British appetite for petrol. It was also the first Griffin-badged car to be sold in the USA, but the F-type was especially popular in Canada where it was sold as a Vauxhall via Pontiac/Buick dealers and, from 1960, as a rebadged ‘Envoy’ through Chevrolet/Oldsmobile outlets. Luton would make a range of ‘the British car built and backed by General Motors’ during the next ten years.
