That the first new postwar MG would find a home with sporting enthusiasts of various Commonwealth states was to be expected, but despite only ever being made in righthand drive form, nearly 2000 were sold in the USA. A handful of TCs were sold in the States in 1946 but two years later 91 per cent of all production was exported in 1948, 41 per cent of which was destined for American buyers. The TC established the template for MG’s highly successful future in the USA – this was not an interpretation of a contemporary Detroit product, but a very individual motor car that carved out its own niche.
