That the first new post­war MG would find a home with sport­ing en­thu­si­asts of var­i­ous Com­mon­wealth states was to be ex­pected, but de­spite only ever being made in right­hand drive form, nearly 2000 were sold in the USA. A hand­ful of TCs were sold in the States in 1946 but two years later 91 per cent of all pro­duc­tion was ex­ported in 1948, 41 per cent of which was des­tined for Amer­i­can buy­ers. The TC estab­lished the tem­plate for MG’s highly suc­cess­ful fu­ture in the USA – this was not an in­ter­pre­ta­tion of a con­tem­po­rary Detroit prod­uct, but a very in­di­vid­ual mo­tor car that carved out its own niche.
