Take a tour with Gordon Murray
More than 40 iconic race and road cars from Gordon Murray’s career are being gathered for a celebration of the Formula 1 designer’s 50 years in the industry this November.
The historically significant cars are to feature in a ‘virtual exhibition’, based in a brand-new facility at Dunsfold, Surrey – premises that will house Gordon Murray Design’s new headquarters for automotive development and production towards the end of the year.
From November, enthusiasts across the world will be able to take an online ‘tour’ of the exhibits and listen to Murray talking about them. The collection will encompass almost every car that Murray has designed or influenced, including ground-breaking Brabham and McLaren Formula 1 racers, McLaren road-going supercars, lightweight concepts, advanced sports cars, one-off specials and radical city cars.
There will be a host of side displays to provide an insight into how these designs have shaped the automotive world, as well as the many cultural inspirations for Murray’s work over the decades.
South African-born Murray says: ‘It will be a very proud and emotional day to see all these cars brought together, as they chart my professional life, as well as my perspective over the decades on complex challenges in vehicle design and engineering. Making this event happen presents a huge logistical challenge, I am enormously appreciative of the generosity of those owners in granting us temporary custodianship of their cars for this unique event.’ gordonmurraydesign.com
Murray’s 1967 IGM Ford Special will be seen with his Brabham BT46B ‘Fan Car’ and the McLaren F1.
