Ford Capri 280 makes £55k at Silverstone event where coupés and low milers are hot tickets

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

Held in conjunction with the 2017 Silverstone Classic event the eponymous auctioneer’s two-day sale lined-up a choice of sporting, exotic and luxury cars and ended with strong prices and most entrants off to new owners.

With a pair of BMW 3.0CSLs making big sums – one breaking the £146,000-mark – the early 1970s Bavarian coupé is a hot ticket for those not swayed by the clichédness of anything with an Aston Martin or Ferrari badge, and a stunning Capri 280 (which made just over 55 grand) showed that interest in the sporting Ford coupé has not gone away, even in the slightest. There was further coupé goodness with a Daimler Double Six, and late-model bonkerness came in the form of a stunning Alfa Romeo RZ.

Most attention was centred on the sub-6000 miles Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 (£38,475) but equally interesting and no less desirable was a 4500 milesfrom-new Vauxhall Lotus Carlton, which drew £76,800.

This was Silverstone at its best, but noticeable was the superb presentation of the car – even better than the usual high standards seen from this auctioneer – while publishing prices the day of the sale was a truly pleasing sign.
