The fewer owners, the better

Dorset’s punters home in on single figures in the logbook and low numbers on the odometer

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

The third of SWVA’s quartet of 2017 sales offered a typically good mash-up of motors, with everything from a 1950 Bentley MkVI special (£23,760) to a matching numbers 1972 Aston Martin DBS (£64,800).

But the number of interesting oneowner cars was the talking point, that single-name-on-the-logbook mix including a 3700-miler 1998 Jaguar XKR, a 1973 MGB Roadster, a 1972 VW Beetle and a 1987 BMW 525i, with some stunning prices being achieved (see results, p36).

Among the first-rate lots was a low-mileage Capri 280 that made £34,560, showing that Fast Ford money is flowing well, albeit not as strongly as the Silverstone Classic 280 (see left). Alongside that was a 1973 Alfa Romeo 2000GT Veloce owned by the vendor for 40 years, and a delightful 1970 Morris Mini.

This was again a typically strong SWVA sale, achieving a 96 per cent success rate. Its next sale is on 27 October and it has announced the first three dates for 2018: 26 January, 27 April and 27 July.
