The first of three sales at the 2017 Silverstone Classic, the small but tempting array of competition-themed cars ticked the boxes for those wanting to have a go. The costs involved in building any competition car are well known, but here were numerous opportunities to escape those costs. There was plenty to like, the FIA-specification Austin Mini Cooper and Jaguar 3.8 saloon being especially interesting, as was a late-’90s BMW 320 built by McLaren and used in Italian Super Touring.
