Manual transmissions are rarely problematic unless abused, so a check for odd noises or an obstructive shift will suffice. Clutches can suffer from a noisy release bearing and leaking hydraulics, and a heavy pedal means replacement is imminent. Replacement on the GTA is more of a hassle as front suspension components and the subframe need moving, and those models can also suffer from differential failure. Then there’s the ‘Selespeed’ automated-manual. It’s the control gubbins that give trouble, not the ‘box itself. Faults with the actuators could land you with a £1500+ bill.
