Pre’63 equipe GTs series to be launched
A new racing series for pre-1963 classics is being launched by the organisers of the Equipe GTS series.
The new series, which has a provisional calendar including Silverstone, Donington, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Zandvoort has been inspired by the success of the existing GTS series, as well as races such as the Goodwood Revival’s Kinrara Trophy.
Organiser John Pearson says: ‘With pre-’63 races popular at both Silverstone and Goodwood, we feel there is a gap for a year-long series.’
Eligible cars include the Austin Healey 3000, MGA, Lotus Elite, Jaguar E-type and many others.
The series will follow Equipe GTS to every event next year; and with significant crossover between the two grids, some cars will be able to take part in both races.
The focus is on pure production racing cars, so modifications are limited, with racers having to comply with period specification.
John adds: ‘The cut-off at 1963 excludes a lot of very powerful mid‘60s cars such as the Shelby Cobra and the later Jaguar E-types, making these pre-’63 races something of a pure experience.’ ❚
