WD’s Austin-Healey makes £40k profit

A 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 that will star in an upcoming episode of Wheeler Dealers has sold at Barrett-Jackson’s 20 October Las Vegas sale.

The Big ‘Healey sold for £59,644 ($78,100), a significant profit on the £20,059 ($26,505) price the show paid for the car, making it the most expensive car the show has ever bought or sold and vindicates the decision to take the car to auction.

Presenters Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead fitted a new leather interior, triple Weber carburettors and a bespoke side-exhaust system designed by Ant.

The British Racing Green paintwork is almost entirely unmarked and the original driver’s book includes a handwritten note from Donald Healey himself.

Mike says: ‘There is no truer test of the quality of your work than presenting it to thousands of people at one of the world’s biggest auctions. Ant and I really pulled it out of the bag with the Healey and the proof was in the way the room came alive when the bidding started, and the fantastic result we achieved. We couldn’t be prouder or more thrilled.’
