1987 Mercedes-Benz 230TE
Far too many W124 estates are battered, bruised and shabby, and finding one in really good order is a tough call these days. Yet this car showed that they’re still out there. Having had one owner from new was an initial draw, and superstrong paperwork (every invoice issued had been retained, the auctioneer said) meant that seasoned ‘Benz followers wouldn’t be deterred by its 192,000 warranted miles. The condition was first rate, with unmarked panels, very good paint (bar some touching-in on the offside loadbay window) and an immaculate interior; the boot’s plastic tray looked like it had never been used. Some might have bemoaned the fact that it wasn’t a range-topping 300 model, but no-one was going to care when the car offered was as good as this.
