800-MILE XJ-S UP FOR GRABS
A Jaguar XJ-S with just 800 miles on the clock is up for sale at Silverstone Auctions in its Silverstone Classic sale on 21-22 July.
Delivered by the Bristol Motor Company to its first owner in 1990, the car has since just had one other owner, a collector, since 2015. A pre-facelift 5.3-litre V12 model, the metallic maroon XJ-S is said to be in as-new condition, complete with its original books and accessories. Graham Searle, Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club chairman, says: ‘I know of one or two low mileage XJ-Ss, but those are at a few thousand miles – I haven’t come across one this low. The V12 does hate sitting around though, so the car’s going to require new hoses, seals and tyres if it hasn’t been done recently. That said, people value originality and low miles, so I would expect it to get at least £30,000.’
Silverstone Auctions has listed the low mileage XJ-S with an estimate of between £35,000 and £40,000.
CCW’s markets editor Richard Barnett, says: ‘ This is an interesting offering. I certainly can’t remember an XJ-S coming to the market with a mileage this low before. It’s in lovely spec too, so if a Jag collector comes along and fetches this at the lower end of the estimate I’ll be left pretty jealous.’
According to Silverstone Auctions, ‘unique is a word frequently misused, however, in this case, it seems appropriate. The time has now come for a new owner to acquire this amazing, 800-miles-from-new, time-warp example. One for the true collector, this is an opportunity not to be missed.’
The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club reckons that this XJ-S will attract plenty of bidders – but it’ll need careful TLC before heading onto the road. Unblemished interior is one of the highlights of this low-mileage XJ-S.
