WHY I LOVE MY MINX

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - BUYING & SELLING -

Andrew is the well-known Rootes guru behind Norfolk-based Mac’s Factors, and has owned his 1966 Minx Deluxe saloon for eight years. Bought from the family of the original owner, the Minx has a history that’s fully documented from when it was new.

With around 130,000 miles racked up so far, the Hillman is incredibly usable, as Andrew says: ‘As the last of the line, this Series VI is arguably the best developed Minx of them all. With its 1725cc engine, slick gear change and disc brakes it drives like a modern car – I’ve driven it all over the country in complete comfort.

‘It’ll sit at 65mph all day and consistently returns around 32mpg thanks to an excellent power-toweight ratio.

‘ There’s decent rear leg room and my car has seatbelts fitted in the back, so it’s ideal for the family.

‘With cheap parts and easy DIY maintenance, the Minx is a superb classic that’s now quite unusual, so it always gets people talking when I take it out.’
