THE CAR I MOST WANTED TO TAKE HOME

- John Lakey JOHN LAKEY SENIOR CONTRIBUTOR

Barrie’s ‘C was tuned when new by Downton Engineering and fitted with its very effective triple carburettor system, enabling the big seven-bearing Austin 3.0-litre six to breathe properly and produce around 185bhp.

He’s progressively modified the car to a fantastically high standard. He had the split rim Compomotive CX alloys made especially for it and has done the same with Recaro seats made for him in Germany. The rear lights feature red US market lenses for a cleaner look and the side-lamp unit has US market clear lenses; both flash orange though with LED bulbs.

As a ‘B GT V8 owner I love the shape of these cars and was impressed by the attention to detail and the subtle and tasteful modifications.
