Unique Rangie for sale
A one-off Range Rover created by tuning firm, Overfinch, has been put up for sale by a Yorkshire classic specialist.
North Yorkshire Classic is advertising the 1990 model, which was re-engineered six years later into a 680CS model, for £22,500. Most Range Rover Classics modified by Overfinch had a 5.7-litre GM V8 but the 680CS – the letters standing for Celebration Special, to mark the specialist’s 20th anniversary – used a 6.8-litre unit. This LHD UK-spec model, used by an owner who often took it to France, is the only one built to this spec.
The 138,000-mile Metallic Westminster Grey model, which has been off the road since 2010, cost its owner £47,000 to overhaul, with another £14,870 spent on engine work in 2001. To cope with the 420bhp V8, the 680CS also has uprated brakes and suspension and a Borg Warner heavy-duty clutch and gearbox.
Business owner Anthony Sellick said that Overfinch’s work on the car – which included dipping and rustproofing the chassis – is partly behind the car’s good condition now.
‘They only ever made one 680CS so it’s rare, and it’s had some interest already from Range Rover collectors.
‘It needs the tailgate replacing and there’s a rust on the bulkhead but otherwise it’s really solid.
I’m half tempted to do it myself, as it’d be a good project!’
This 420bhp Range Rover originally cost its owner nearly £62k to buy and convert to Overfinch specification back in 1996.
