THE WEEK IN DEALS

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - BUYING & SELLING - RICHARD BARNETT’S WEEK OF LOOKING AT THE MARKET

MONDAY

Is October becoming the new August when it comes to the auction calendar? September was rammed with sales and October used to be, so I’m wondering, looking through the calendar, if auctioneers know something I don’t when it comes to holding a sale. It’s a reflection of how busy auctions are becoming – they aren’t just the preserve of the trade any more.

WEDNESDAY

An early breakfast so there’s time to skim through the CCW classifieds. Pioneer Automobiles is offering a 1961 Standard Vanguard Luxury Six that’s described as ‘nicely presented’. Looking good, it’s priced at £7950. This week’s buying guide sums it up – they are tremendous value for money. The wider market’s loss is definitely your gain – they’re so much cheaper than a Ford

Zodiac.

THURSDAY

Caught up with Barons’ Tony Cavell about the auction house’s 20th anniversary. He’s been with the company since it started, the conversation inevitably turns to values, and it’s interesting to see how, in some cases) estimates simply haven’t changed all that much since the late 1990s. Just shows how stable the market is.
