September was rammed with sales and October used to be, so I’m wondering, looking through the calendar, if auctioneers know something I don’t when it comes to holding a sale. It’s a reflection of how busy auctions are becoming – they aren’t just the preserve of the trade any more.

Caught up with Barons’ Tony Cavell about the auction house’s 20th anniversary. He’s been with the company since it started, the conversation inevitably turns to values, and it’s interesting to see how, in some cases) estimates simply haven’t changed all that much since the late 1990s. Just shows how stable the market is.
