Classic Risers

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

Jaguar XJ220

This is one of those ‘once-in-alifetime’ classics, in that most will only be able to afford it once and there won’t be another drive like it on this planet.

Unveiled at the 1988 British Motor Show as a four-wheel drive V12 racer, the production car emerged four years later as a rearwheel-drive V6, packing an engine closely related to that of the MG Metro 6R4. It was no wall-flower, though, becoming an early member of the 200mph club.

There are many roadworthy examples out there, as seen at the 2017 Silverstone Classic when 42 took to the track to mark car’s 25th anniversary.

Rivals to the XJ220 like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 will cost £750k and £650k respectively, so immediatly prices for Jaguar’s infamous beast don’t look quite so scary!
