RICHARD BARNETT’S WEEK OF LOOKING AT THE MARKET

- with Richard Barnett

MONDAY WEDNESDAY

Does a car have to be immaculate to be enjoyable? I know there are a few who like their motors to be absolutely concours but I just don’t get it. That’s probably why I’m drawn to cars like the Jaguar 340 in the next H&H ABC sale, which comes to market after 34 years with one owner. It’s had some work, the engine has good oil pressure but there’s room for interior and bodywork improvement. If it were mine I’d shell out on the mechanicals receiving a good going through, smarten-up the interior bit and fitting some wider steel wheels – with the hub caps back on, of course. Anyway, it has a £70009000 estimate if you’re interested.

SATURDAY

Funny how things work out and what you find when you least expect it. Had a call out of the blue to see an MGB GT. Now as most readers know it’s not my favourite classic, but this one sounded that bit different. Aqua Blue, (which I like) dark blue trim and fewer than 70,000 miles from new. A local car too all its life too. Cards on the table, this ‘B GT won me over.
