Twin Cam owner Gary Ball also brought along this RS1600I. ‘I’ve got a whole collection of every type of RS Escort, each one the best example I could find, and the RS1600I had been a gap in the collection for a long time,’ he explains. ‘I also wanted a white one – Ford Motorsport used to release all its racing models in white so all the cars in the collection are finished like that.

‘Because they were unloved for so long and ignored in favour of Turbos and Xr3is, mint low-mileage Rs1600is don’t seem to exist. This one was bought as a rusty original project with 60,000 miles on the clock, and was restored via staged payments by former Ford specialist RS Classics.

‘It’s mint and has been detailed underneath, but I’ve had a few issues – it had a misfire, and a fuel leak fix required new-old-stock pipes at £250. They were £80 originally – the 3D printing revolution hasn't reached the MKIII yet!’
