Though the ti­tle chase is deemed a ‘world’ cham­pi­onship, a run through the na­tion­al­i­ties en­tered shows the 1982 con­test was re­ally a north­ern hemi­sphere se­ries save for a lone Aus­tralian. En­tered for Far­leigh Cas­tle were five rid­ers from Great Bri­tain, three Bel­gians, seven Swedes, two Amer­i­cans, eight rid­ers from the Nether­lands, two from the prin­ci­pal­ity of Lux­em­bourg, one from the prin­ci­pal­ity of San Marino, two Aus­tri­ans, Nor­way and Den­mark fielded one rider apiece, while Fin­land had two rid­ers as did France and Ire­land... whereas West Ger­many had six rid­ers and Italy had three.
