What’re you talking about in the CDB world? All sorts of things as it happens, bring it on we say.
It was good to see the archive piece on the 1966 ISDT with the ‘meet the teams’ gathering at Fenny Drayton where there was quite a buzz of anticipation for our attempt that year. We’d had a chance to try our bikes in Isdt-type conditions in Wales a couple of months before going to Sweden and I felt we had machinery and the back-up worth the trip. In the end we lost out by fractions of a second in times, but still a decent showing which boded well for the next year in Poland.
On a personal note, I finished as Britain’s highest scorer in the special tests and the final day’s speed test at Karlskoga on the Gallerasen circuit was great fun for me being a former GP road racer.
I remember myself and Roy Peplow blasting away from the field and treating it like a road race rather than a time schedule. I seem to recall we had to run for four hours on the 3km track and Roy kept pretty much with me until he took to the infield for a bit of impromptu grass tracking. I’d be interested to see the results from that speed test, is it really 51 years ago?

Sadly the speed test results are proving elusive... but we’ll keep looking.
