Honda CB750 K2: so far, so...what?

-

This has been what seems like a huge (and long) task for our Mark, but – to be fair – like most of us, he’s had lots going on, not least his Yamaha TX500 (more of which soon). For those of you who don’t subscribe, but want to know where this tale started – you need to dig out/buy CMM issue number 349 or November 2016: this is when Mark decided to try and scale his own, personal K2. And we’re finally near the summit! He managed to find a late 1971 early K2 model, an import from Montana, USA and set to work to bring it back to a good, usable (if not perfect) condition. That was the main aim: not a concours restoration, more getting something that could be used, was usable and yet still passable to classic buffs, even if it carried more than a bit of patina. Parts two, three and four looked at how Mark tackled the carburettors, with him sorting out the jetting and the float heights – as well as giving all the parts a good clean. Soon he was tackling the brakes, which once more was a confusing time as he found that some parts seemed to be from a later model: it was to be a common theme! Head bearings were sorted next, followed by the K2’s rear suspension and then the rear wheel of the CB750 as well as the all-important hub. Chain and sprockets were sourced and replaced (and a good, cheapie chain tool found – for more go to page 62) and by now things were coming together: come the May 2018 issue chain and sprockets were now sorted. Next up was the motor, which was serviced and sorted, timing corrected and an air-box cunningly fashioned. Electrics now needed lots of attention, new plugs/connectors. The ignition was now looked at before we arrived at our current position – that of sorting the overall looks of the K2. Et voila! Let’s hope it rides nice!
