POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

-

It's time to get political! The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA), the body that represents all 'Powered Light Vehicles' and stakeholders in the industry, is furious that the UK Government seems intent on ignoring the benefits of going from A to B on two wheels.

I mean, think of it: we are in full PPE and certainly self-isolating along the way. Instead, Grant Shapps, Minister for Transport, during his recent statement to commuters, informed them to get to work, while avoiding public transport as lockdown is eased. Right... that's easy then. Or not, as the case may be. Of course, he thoughtfully provided a list of alternatives including walking and cycling, but then inexplicably ignored Powered Two Wheelers. These being lightweight, zero and low-emission scooters, mopeds and motorcycles that use minimal road and parking space, but ensure social distancing...

As a consequence of this omission, members of MCIA have come together to make sure that commuters are fully aware of the advantages offered by this efficient, environmentally friendly and cost-effective way of travelling.

Wednesday, June 3 saw the launch of Unlock your Freedom, a hardhitting, multi-media campaign aimed at getting more people to enjoy their commute aboard a powered twowheeler, by providing everything a new rider needs to know to get on the road. Let's face it, after just a short Compulsory Basic Training course, commuters can enjoy the benefits of life on two wheels, along with shorter (and more fun) commutes, courtesy of their own socially distanced PTW.

With a wide choice of styles, super-clean electric or low emission petrol motors, the range of PTWS available is wide enough to satisfy everyone's Cummings and Goings! The

MCIA has drafted a letter for anyone so motivated to send to their MP, pushing the case for the inclusion of PTWS in transport decisions and policy. If you want a copy of the letter, just drop editor Bertie a line at: Bsimmonds@mortons.co.uk
