Stan Woods, winner of the 500cc race when Donington reopened in 1977, will be back at the 40th anniversary meeting and riding in the special parades. Stan will also be bringing the magnificent 500cc winner’s trophy, presented by the Pathfinders & Derby Motor Club back in 1977, to present to the winner of the 2017 race. Donington Park has secured the 1976 and 1977 Barry Sheene Championship-winning bikes to attend the festival in August. Supporting the 4-hr Endurance race, the ICGP races and Lansdowne Series races will be a number of race bike parades that are returning historic machines to the track and reuniting Endurance teams from the day. Team Bike will be reuniting at the event with a selection of their bikes, and riders including Steve Manley, Steve Chambers and Ian Martin. Charlie Williams and Stan Woods will be along with the Lansdowne bikes. Just some of the amazing race bike parade machines that will be taking part in the parades include: Ex-roberto Pietri – ‘ La Meona’ – Genuine 1979 Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000 AMA Superbike, ex-john Mcguinness Vimto Honda SP1, ex-james Toseland Castrol Honda CBR600, ex-eddie Lawson Cagiva 500, ex-roger Burnett TT winning Honda RS500, 1956 Gilera 500/4 GP, MV Agusta 500/3, MV 500/4 GP, Yamaha TZ750, Honda 6 RC174, and a number of genuine RC45 race bikes from the Rev It Red collection. The CRMC is supporting the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB) as its adopted charity in 2017. The NABB is the body representing the 27 Blood Bikes groups and the 2870 volunteers in those groups around the country. Last year they made over 39,000 runs, carrying not only blood but also spinal fluid, Rabies serum, samples, surgical instruments and CD scans. They are most frequently called upon at weekends and at night when official transport is unavailable. The fundraising will be concentrated on the Donington Classic Festival meeting, over August 4-6 when volunteers from the Derbyshire Branch of NABB will be attending with their machines.
