Aft ter 10 years of fundrais­ing, the Joey Dun­lop Fo un­da­tion hol­i­day apart­ments in the Isle of Ma an were of­fi­cially opened by Linda Dun­lop an d John Mcguin­ness on Mad Sun­day 2010. The apart­ments have been de­signed and eq uipped to pro­vide all-year-round hol­i­day acc com­mo­da­tion for peo­ple of all ages, with var ri­ous health is­sues and needs. In fact, the e JDF apart­ments are the only spe­cial­ist ho li­day provider on the Is­land to have gained a Nna­tional Ac­ces­si­ble Scheme ex­cep­tional gra ad­ing. Dur­ing the win­ter months, the foun­da­tion wo would like to as­sist lo­cal res­i­dents who are be­tween hos­pi­tal and home. With an ag­ing population, de­mand con­tin­ues to grow, which was the cat­a­lyst to fundraise and build ad­di­tional apart­ments. On Oc­to­ber 1, 2016, Is­land res­i­dent and World Su­per Bike Cham­pion, Jonathan Rea, helped dig the foun­da­tions for the new apart­ments. With con­struc­tion work sched­uled to be com­pleted well ahead of this year’s TT, the JDF team are invit­ing lo­cal res­i­dents and TT vis­i­tors to cel­e­brate. Sun­day, April 30, will be an of­fi­cial view­ing day for Is­land res­i­dents and on Mad Sun­day, June 4, the new apart­ments will be of­fi­cially opened by mem­bers of the Dun­lop fam­ily at 3pm (sub­ject to change if there is any racing on the Sun­day). Then on Sun­day evening long-term sup­porter and TT win­ner, Klaus Klaf­fen­bock, will open his cor­po­rate unit for the cel­e­bra­tions to con­tinue. Trus­tee, Kevin Quirk, said: “The team of vol­un­teers, our build­ing con­trac­tor, Andy Faragher, Manx Gas and DLP have worked ex­tremely hard to achieve our dream of ad­di­tional apart­ments be­ing op­er­a­tional by TT 2017. The af­ter­noon grand open­ing will at­tract large crowds and the evening event will be time to cel­e­brate, with sev­eral TT stars sched­uled to be in at­ten­dance.”
