COLOUR ME NOT HAPPY

Classic Racer - - PADDOCK GOSSIP -

Dear CR When I purchased the latest issue of CR, #185, I could hardly wait to get home to devour the pages. I must say the feature you prepared on the late, great John Surtees is excellent and a worthy tribute to the great man himself. Then I turned to the feature on Vince French, by which time I needed lamplight, but it was difficult to read because the coloured paper was reflecting in the light and it wasn’t much better in natural light. I am not given to trivial criticism but in my opinion ‘colour sheets’ are not working, sorry to say, otherwise a great mag. Ronnie Mcquillan

Hello Ronnie, thanks for your letter. I’ve chosen yours amidst the several I received along the same lines.your letter is representative of the correspondence on the matter and I would like to do two things in relation to it. The first is to say sorry, you are right. When I reviewed the pages on screen and on print out the contrast levels were nowhere near as severe as they eventually turned out in the magazine.this is by no means meant as an excuse, just an explanation. The second is to assure every reader that such things will NEVER happen again on my watch. Sorry everybody, future features will be black on white or very easy to read every time – despite what my preview pages might lead me to believe to the contrary. Best wishes, Tony
