Dave Simmonds remembered

Classic Racer - - READER WRITE -

Dear CR Re your article about Dave Simmonds in the May/june issue. It mentions in the article that Dave had good contacts in Japan. I knew Dave between 1960 when he started, and 1963 when I retired. It’s been in print before but Dave’s contacts came through his father’s employment. His dad worked for BOAC (Now BA). I can’t remember what his job was but he worked the Tokyo route and would bring bits, probably even bikes, back with him on return trips. What a contact to have, particularly around that period when Japanese production was taking over! Brian Clark Newark

Hello Brian, absolutely spot-on! What a way into the Japanese world and what perfect timing. What is it they say about making your own luck? It certainly was the case that the harder Dave worked, the luckier he became! Tony
