Lansdowne makes twenty

Now well into its 20th year, the Lansdowne series has once again produced some top class racing, with honours shared around some excellent riders. The year will eventually see seven championship rounds with the CRMC, BMCRC, North Glos Racing, Endurance Legends and Classic and Modern Motorsport. In September the series organisers assist in running the Goodwood Revival Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, while in October they travel to Portimao in Portugal for the Algarve Classic Festival. The season opened at Silverstone with four races at the Bemsee meeting. Last year’s champion Dean Stimpson (Izzard Racing) started where he left off with three wins and a second. Team ACR rider Sam Clews was at the sharp end with one win and two second places. Robin Stokes (Manx) had three class wins in the National Motorcycle Museumsponsored WRR class with Chris Bassett (Manx) taking the other. Round two took place at Donington Park with three races as part of the Endurance Legends Four Hour weekend. The first race was a battle royal between Russell, Clews and Firmin, with Russell taking the win... and posting the fastest lap of the weekend in the process. The top three in WRR were Peter Crew (Manx) followed George Thomas (Dunnell Manx) and Tony Perkin (Manx). In race two Clews turned the tables on Russell in the Bonhams class, the WRR was Crew, Stokes, Thomas, and the Avon 350 saw the order of Tony Raynor, from Jimmy May and Baldwin. In race three Glen English turned his weekend around and claimed the victory from Russell by 0.168 second. Clews was third and Fitchett fourth. In the WRR class it was Crew from Perkin with Stuart Tonge making up the first three. The following weekend the series moved to the Bemsee meeting at Snetterton. Race one was won by Stimpson from Russell and Clive Ling (Dunnell Manx). The WRR class order was Crew, Bassett and Seb Perez (G50 Matchless) while the 350 class was won by Tim Jackson (7R) from Roger Ashby (7R) and Tony Raynor (Manx). Stimpson convincingly won the following three races, with Russell taking two more second places and Clews the other. In the WRR Bassett came out on top with two wins the others going to Thomas and Perez. Jackson took all four 350 wins.
