Nick Mason

Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports HARVEST, 1981

-

Mason always seemed to enjoy being a member of Pink Floyd much more than his bandmates, content to poot-poot around in his vintage cars while everyone else ramped up the drama.

This laissez-faire attitude extended to his solo debut. Mason co-produced Fictitious Sports, but it was the brainchild of US jazz pianist Carla Bley and featured Robert Wyatt and Chris Spedding in prominent roles. There’s little of Floyd’s DNA present, though Hot River sounds like it’s from the mothership.

Not unlistenable, but not what Pink Floyd fans wanted either. At least Mason sounds like he had a blast taking part.
