‘The Westminster MP sex scandal didn’t surprise me’
Dozens of MPS have been accused of inappropriate sexual behaviour in a document by staff who work with Tory MPS. A whopping 36 Tories were accused of harassment. A secret Whatsapp group used by women in Westminster to warn each other about MPS with a reputation for sexually inappropriate behaviour was also unearthed.
This scandal didn’t surprise me, but, personally, I’ve never experienced innapropriate behaviour from a male MP. Despite me being known as the “selfie queen” in the papers for my “steamy pictures”, I’ve never had a derogatory comment aimed at me while I’ve been at work.
In regards to the secret Whatsapp group, it’s no wonder women used to feel that they had to keep these conversations about harrassment secret, as coming forward could have ruined their careers. If anything good comes out of the recent Harvey Weinstein sex scandal, surely it will be that we no longer have to suffer in silence – in this current climate, women should feel empowered to make a very noisy stand against predatory men.
Last week also saw actor Kevin Spacey come out as gay after he was accused of making a sexual advance towards actor Anthony Rapp when he was just 14 and Spacey was 26. In the wake of the claims, Spacey’s Netflix series House Of Cards was cancelled. I think it’s unfair on the rest of the cast to cancel it as they’ve done nothing wrong.
