Parkrun be­gan 14 years ago, with just 13 run­ners. The free 5K runs take place all over the UK and now at­tract around 250,000 peo­ple ev­ery week. And they’re not just for fit­ties; in 2005 the av­er­age fin­ish time was 22:16. It’s got slower ev­ery year and, last year, it was 29:06, prov­ing that ev­ery­one is wel­come. It’s so­cia­ble, free and in­clu­sive. Check www. parkrun.org.uk to find your lo­cal event. You can walk it, push a buggy around it, and kids can get in­volved too, as four to 14-year-olds can run a 2K course. Try it this week­end!
