Duncan James’ guest column
World Mental Health Awareness Day falls on 10 October this year. We need to remove the stigma as people are suffering in silence from illnesses like anxiety and depression. An awareness day helps people be more confident about opening up about what they are battling inside their head. It can be hard to open up to family and close friends, but it really helps. I had anxiety after Blue split up the first time, but I didn’t tell anyone. I bottled up my feelings so much that it reached a point when I had a panic attack on live TV presenting the National Lottery. Since my ordeal, I’ve learned to manage it by reaching out for help and talking about it. A problem shared is a problem halved.
